Did You Know That A Vocation Is Also Built?

You don’t have a vocation? No job inspires you? You will discover here that one can build a vocation. So, don’t wait any longer to get started!
Did you know that a vocation is also built?

Do you consider that vocation is something innate? Some people are born with a series of skills that enable them to be competent in certain professions. For example, someone for whom it is easy to clearly and simply convey different concepts related to a subject while allowing a good assimilation of others, can become a great teacher.

However, are there people who cannot find their vocation? The answer is no”. In fact, as we will see, a vocation can also be built. This idea leads to a question: what is vocation really?

According to the thesis of a student of the University of Seville entitled Origen y configuración de la vocación docente: análisis de la asociación “La tribu educa” ( Origin and configuration of the teaching vocation: analysis of the association “La tribu éduque” ),  “Vocation is the inclination that the individual manifests towards a particular profession or studies”.  But, we will not always have the skills to be able to exercise it. Therefore, one must acquire them and work.

Building the vocation

It is possible that we do not identify at all with what has been mentioned. We may not have been born with a set of skills that allow us to find our vocation in an environment that has favored it. Or maybe we don’t have access to the acquisition of those skills that we need. What happens in these circumstances? Are we destined to work in something we don’t like?

We may not be interested in the position we currently occupy  and only do it because we need the money. It can be any type of profession: cleaning, working in an insurance company, being a teleoperator, being the manager of a business, etc. The fact that we don’t like it can make us feel demotivated and lacking in the desire to give our best. But that can change.

Improve skills

One of the best ways to start building a vocation is to improve our skills by taking a course or signing up for a seminar. Some companies set up incentives for employees who progress in their work. This can result in a salary increase, an opportunity for internal promotion or training supported by the company.

Realizing that we are always more professional and  that we do our job better can end up enchanting us. It doesn’t matter if the job is translating text or dealing with customers who walk into a restaurant. In all cases, the vocation can be built.

Feel proud of our work to build our vocation

Having started working on these skills will take us to this other point. As we discover that we are more efficient at our work, more productive or even more creative, we will feel more proud of what we do.  Little by little, our interest will grow and we will forget this disinterest that we felt at the beginning.

The positive consequence that we will obtain is  a new motivation to feel that we have succeeded in building our vocation: recognition. A recognition that we will receive from others and which will be nothing more than a confirmation of the achievement of our objectives.

Take only five minutes

Building our own vocation is sometimes not an easy task. In this case, the research work itself can turn into a real challenge. In addition, those who have the vocation “in series” will perhaps not have to go through this stage. However, they will also have to train, hone their skills and sometimes face selective processes (such as oppositions) which can cause them great frustration.

However, instead of throwing in the towel or telling ourselves over and over again, “I can’t”, let’s start by taking five minutes a day to learn how to improve our job performance. We can also learn something new to help us aspire to a higher position or, simply, to imbibe information to improve a skill. We all have five minutes a day to devote to building our vocation. There are no excuses. Have you always had a clear idea of your vocation or, on the contrary, have you had to build it?
